Detroit Eviction Defense Fundraising Dinner and Dance Honoring Women Activists
Friday, May 31
5 pm to 11 pm
UAW Local 1700, 8230 East Eight Mile Road, Detroit, MI 48234
(East of Van Dyke)
Join us for an evening of food, fun, and entertainment at a fundraiser for Angela Crockett. Angela is battling Fannie Mae and CitiMortgage, who are attempting to seize her home. CitiMortgage, the originator and servicer of her mortgage, sold her home while she was actively participating in Home Affordable Unemployed Program, in violation of the rules and regulations of the program. Citimortgage, as a participant in HUAP, contractually agreed to stop foreclosure and collections against participants. Nevertheless, Citimortgage foreclosed on Angela while she was in the program, without notifying her, and continued to collect her payments.
CitiMortgage, a major contributor to the subprime lending diasaster that has destroyed communities all across the U.S., received more than $340 billion from taxpayers, plus an unknown (and secret amount) from the Federal Reserve’s $8 trillion in emergency programs. Nevertheless CitiMortgage continues to refuse assist homeowners.
Now Fannie Mae, owned by the Federal government, is attempting to throw Angela and her teenage son out of their Detroit home. Angela has waged a valiant public campaign to fight the threatened eviction and needs your support now to raise funds to continue the fight. Please join her on May 31.
