Angela’s story

Angela Crockett has lived in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood since 1972.  In 1996, she purchased a home across  the street from her parents (where she grew up), and started to raise her own family.

In 2005, as the auto industry began to contract, Angela was laid off from her engineering position at Ford Motor Company.  She returned to school, obtaining a master’s degree in 2008.  She worked various odd jobs, unable to find steady employment in her field, in the midst of the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression.  She started to fall behind in her mortgage payments.
CitiMortgage foreclosed on Angela Crockett and her 16 year old son, while she was participating in the Home Affordable Unemployment Program (HAUP), in complete violation of the rules and regulations of the program. The Home Affordable Unemployment Program was designed to protect and assist unemployed homeowners while they were in the program. CitiMortgage, as a participant in the HAUP, agreed to stop foreclosure and collections against participants. Nevertheless, CitiMortgage foreclosed using forged documents while Angela was in the program, without notifying her, and continued to collect her payments.

We demand that the eviction be stopped and that an equitable and affordable solution be offered to Angela Crockett that reflects the current market value of the home and a low interest rate loan.
