Take Action to Oppose to Bills to Speed Foreclosures, Tues., June 4, Weds., June 5

They want to reduce the redemption period from 6 months to 60 days!

The same right-wing blitz that forced right-to-work thru the lame-duck legislature is now targeting homeowners with a bill that will dramatically accelerate the pace of foreclosure evictions. Current law allows homeowners in foreclosure a six-month redemption period from the time of the sheriff’s auction to gather funds to redeem their home or to challenge illegal or fraudulent foreclosures. Senate Bill 383 sponsored by Republican Senators Booher and Richardville will shorten that redemption period to just 60 days, guaranteeing that many more families will face imminent eviction after the sheriff’s sale.

Passage in the Senate seems assured, but there is a chance that in the House–where the conservative majority narrowed after the last election– some Republicans will hesitate before endorsing this blatant attack on Michigan’s struggling homeowners.

The house bills are HB 4764, HB 4765, HB 4766, and  HbB 4767.

We need to take Action to expose this stealth legislation and muster opposition:

Tuesday, May 28 – Call these Legislators members of the House Financial Services Committee and tell them you oppose the bills:

Hello!
I am calling to ask Rep. Somerville to oppose House Bill 4767.
By shortening Michigan’s long-standing 6 month Foreclosure Redemption Period to just 2 months, this bill would cause thousands of Michigan families to lose their homes to foreclosure.
Michigan doesn’t need more foreclosures.
